Kitchen Pendant Lighting can Change Things

A pendant lighting fixture is suspended from a ceiling by a rod or a chain. These can be used alone or in groups for a stunning effect. Sometimes each pendant fixture in a group is hung at different heights to create a special look. Kitchen pendant lighting is simply perfect in small spaces. Available in practically unlimited styles, finishes, shapes, materials and colors, you have plenty of choice with pendant lighting.

Pendant lights look great in any space and provide excellent ambient and task lighting. The best locations for these in a kitchen are over the countertop, kitchen peninsulas, dining or entertainment area and the kitchen island. Combined with dimmers, they provide the right light for preparing or cutting vegetables. Over a breakfast area, they give sufficient light for homework or mom’s paperwork. When the family is just relaxing around the kitchen they can be dimmed to provide cozy ambient lighting

The most popular designs used in kitchens are brushed pewter, Tiffany and polished nickel pendants. However, you can select the ones that suit your particular décor best – whether contemporary or conventional to achieve the exact look you want.

Some of the designs available today actually look more like part of the room décor, making a fashion statement. They are no longer the boring fixture that you would expect to see, suspended from the ceiling so that a particular area can get some light.

According to lighting stores, most homeowners go in for the colors offered by Asian Fusion, Tuscan, Mediterranean and retro style. Neutral hues and clear shades are preferred. The best sellers however, are small pendant lighting with colored and multicolored glass.

Unusual fixtures are always in demand for their unique look and value. While metal pendant fixtures make for a gothic look, the ceramic type are more flexible since they can be of any color you want.

Hand-blown Murano Italian pendant lights provide an original look since each one is a unique work of art. Some of these have a single color blown into a bell or bowl shape. You can also get a myriad of colors in unusual shapes. When the pendant is hung up and a light bulb is added, the colors trace a pretty pattern across the ceiling or wall, depending on where the light is focused.

Kitchen pendant lighting can produce a dramatic effect based on the way they are displayed. They can be arranged in a row or a circle or displayed on tracks to highlight a space.
